Brian Ellison is the trainer of most of Koo’s Racing Club’s horses. Another of his high profile horses include Carte Diamond, winner of the November Handicap before a gallant 2nd in the Tote Ebor and was amongst the favourites for the Melbourne before his well publicised accident on the eve of the race. Over the last few season, notable horses include Ashkal Way, Teslin, Bring Sweet and stable favourite Fatehalkhair. Brian is also well known for his horses landing major gambles. Taffs Well and Everest were great examples of this and who can forget last season when Club horse Film Festival won at a price of 6/5 when the lucky owners (me !!) had backed the horse at 5/1 in the morning, having been told by Brian that the horse was a certainty. Overall, Brian has shown great training skills and the we are delighted that he has agreed to train most of our horses. Brian’s Spring Cottage Stables are situated in Norton, Malton, only a 30 minute drive from York. The Stables has 64 boxes and the yard has a benefit from a horse walker, which is covered and floodlit to enable use during bad weather. Just a mile from the yard, are the superb Langton Wold Gallops, generally regarded as some of the finest in the country. The horses walk to the gallops, which itself is an ideal warm up. The gallops consist of 6f and 12f all-weather gallops and 5, 6 and 12 furlongs grass gallops. Other facilities are 9 schooling fences, 3 schooling hurdles and practice starting stalls.
